The automaker has indicated that it plans for the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, to produce 150,000 electric trucks per year as a result of the high demand for the vehicle, production of which will start just weeks from now.įord says that it is working with suppliers, as well as its own Van Dyke Electric Powertrain Center and Rawsonville Components Plant, to increase capacity of part production for the truck, including for components like electric drive systems and battery cells. ![]() The Ford F-150 Lightning and 5 Other Game ChangersĪfter taking steps last fall to increase the planned Ford F-150 Lightning production amid the continuing semiconductor shortage and the disruptions of the pandemic, Ford revealed this week that it plans to almost double production of the upcoming EV.What starts out looking like a $10,000 option on XLT models, given the mandatory $9500 equipment group, means that the availability of the extended-range battery starts north of the $70,000 mark. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the configurator launch has turned out to be the pricing strategy of the 300-mile battery pack. This version will also feature a unique front fascia along with 22-inch wheels. The range-topping Platinum trim, meanwhile, will start at $92,569 and offer the extended-range battery as standard, while dialing up the luxury trimmings even further to include an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo system, Nirvana leather, and all of the optional items on the two previous trims. The extended-range battery is once again a $10,000 option here, with the standard-range battery being the default option, so far more can be easily spent at this level. The Lariat trim will start at $69,169 and will offer such luxury items like leather-trimmed seats, a 15.5-inch infotainment screen, and an eight-speaker Bang and Olufsen stereo. That equipment group will add goodies like a power tailgate, 20-inch wheels, and 9.6-kW Pro Power Onboard system, with two additional towing packages available on the menu for a little extra. Therefore, there is quite a bit of difference in price between the XLT model with the standard-range battery, and the extended-range pack. ![]() Buyers who opt for the extended-range battery, however, will also have to take the XLT 312A equipment group, which will bring the price of the longer-range XLT trim up to $74,169, prior to the $1695 destination charge. The latter will dial the performance up to 563 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque, at a cost of $10,000. The XLT trim, which will be the entry-level trim for most buyers, will start at $54,669, and will be offered with a choice of the standard-range battery or an extended-range battery, good for 300 miles.
